Hii my name is Edom! I’m an Artist based in Northern VA. I mostly work with paint but love to create in almost any medium.
WorldviewEverything in life is intentional. Growing up in an immigrant household had its struggles, but one thing I noticed early in life is how many miracles and sacrifices took place before I was even born just for me to be here now. A hell of a lot of alignment too.
We are all walking unique but intersecting paths, we are all a reflection of God, and we all have a universe within us.
Our dreams and desires are roadmaps given to us by spirit, we are meant to follow them.
MissionTo help others reconnect with SELF. Encouraging authenticity and expression in a world that pushes for sameness. My mission is to create a safe space for introspection and emotionality by highlighting topics around spirituality, self development and just overall life experiences that are not as openly discussed in our society.
Going Back To My Roots
“Edom”(eh-dum) was the name given to me by my parents when I was born. Once I was old enough to engage with the outside world and attend preschool, my name was consistently being mispronounced by all my classmates and even the teacher. It drove me to dislike my name so much that when I was five years-old I begged my parents to let me change my name and they allowed it. So at five years of age I decided my new name would be “Yohanna”. When I started Kindergarten at my new school, no one else would ever know Edom.
About three years ago, I had a realization that changed my life. Edom was more than just a name. Edom is my inner child and our inner child never dies. Instead, she has been in hiding. I was so quick to change her name because it was something others didn’t understand. Life experiences and trauma had closed me off to the purest form of my soul.
It sounds kinda dramatic, I know, but the first 7 years of a child’s life are imperative. These years are when we are the most impressionable. Our subconscious minds are programmed with everything we see and hear in our environment. Our views, beliefs, self worth and self esteem are all established during these years and although our minds can still change when we grow, our subconscious holds onto these childhood experiences and uses them to navigate the world and how we interact with it.
That being said, Edom has been in hiding for years. Scared of being judged by the outside world’s expectations for her.
EdomCreates is about freeing her. Releasing her creative mind from the capitalistic world that’s so focused on working to survive, EdomCreates is my vow to work towards spiritual and physical fulfillment and spreading love and light to the collective.
First ever painting done in Kindergarten :)
